Potato Lovers Rejoice
One of the first German words I ever learnt was kartoffel. I looked it up because it’s my favourite vegetable and I knew it featured heavily on German menus. What I didn’t know is that there are restaurants in Germany which specialise in serving up this wonderful vegetable, with nothing but potatoes on the menu! I was so grateful to discover Munich’s Kartoffelhaus which literally translates to House of Potatoes.

The menu is pretty varied with potato dishes from around the world. Some are traditional some are not but there’s definitely an international slant to the menu. The Vienna schnitzel with pommes seemed to be a hit and they even have gluten free meat and potato dishes but I went with the vegetarian Greek inspired roast potatoes with rosemary and feta. I don't know how we even managed to finish our meals as the portions were huge.

I’m not sure my dining companions were enamoured with their potato meals as much as I was but I could quite happily eat this every day. Every. Single. Day. I even loved the cast iron Le Creuset dishes they were served in, I'll have to pick up some of those for myself.

Kartoffelhaus is a fun place to eat if you’re going to be in Munich. We were there on a weekend night and it was fairly busy so you might want to make a reservation on the weekends. It’s located in Schwabing West, a popular residential area in Munich, and it’s right opposite the Hohenzollernplatz metro station so it’s very easy to get to. Munich Kartoffelhaus is a must for potato lovers and I definitely recommend ordering the Greek potatoes with feta!
